There’s nothing like a cool, late fall day. It’s too cold to go without a coat, but still warm enough for there to not be snow or dirty slush. Thanksgiving weekend was no exception. I recently got the opportunity to … Continue reading

Ashley + Ryan = Married! (Morning Glory Inn, South Side, Pittsburgh, PA – September 18, 2015)

Ryan and Ashley are MARRIED!

On September 18, 2015, they unified their love in front of their friends and family at the Morning Glory Inn in Pittsburgh’s South Side neighborhood. It was a wonderful day for all involved, but especially for Ryan, Ashley, their son Peyton and daughter Avery, because they officially became a family!

Thank you to Ryan and Ashley for giving me the opportunity to take part in your special day! I had a blast photographing you all!

Ashley and Ryan are Married!

Ashley and Ryan are Married!

On Friday, September 18, 2015, I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Ashley and Ryan Laitinen! The celebration was held in front of their dear friends and family at the Morning Glory Inn which is located in Pittsburgh’s South Side neighborhood. This is only a mere preview of what is yet to come, so stay tuned!

Love is Love.

Same Sex Marriage is now legal!

I’m super happy today.

Today, everyone in the United States of America can legally marry the person they love.

I never had a doubt that this day would eventually come, but now it has and it is here!

When I photograph a wedding or an engagement, I get really excited about it. I think I feed off of the loving energy from the couple that I am photographing and it helps me to really capture the moment. So you see, the beautiful photos you see from me are part of a collaborative effort. YOU bring the love and YOU project that emotion out when you’re really feeling it — and I’m capturing it in my own creative way. I’m capturing love.

It’s a beautiful thing, really.

I can’t wait to be excited on that magnitude again.

Getting married? Let’s talk. I’m available for weddings, engagements and everything in between. ❤

Art All Night 2015!

North Park Mini Golf

North Park Mini Golf

If you haven’t noticed, I have a thing for old, rusty neon signage. I think it has character and takes you back to a time when things were simpler. Some signs I’ve seen are faded, but still pop with a lot of character with crazy, painted on fonts and lighting.

Someday, I’d like to visit that Neon Graveyard they have out in Las Vegas to see all those old Vegas Strip Casino signs from the glory days of yesteryear.

This year’s entry for Art All Night is a continuation of a theme I’ve had going for the past three years: Vintage Recreational Signs. Two years ago, to great acclaim, I entered a photo of late 1950s-style Dairy Queen signage. Both ice cream lovers and nostalgia lovers alike fell in love with it, and I sold 3 copies of the image.

Last year, I entered another ice cream themed neon sign, but it was much smaller, and I think less noticed.

I photographed this mini golf sign in North Park, which is a county-owned park in Allegheny County, PA. I had a rare week day off and wanted to explore. The mini golf course actually looked really interesting to photograph on its’ own, but it was closed. What I like most about this image is that it was a crisp and cool day, but still bright and sunny with blue skies. I think I felt the contrast of the rusty sign over the blue sky would be interesting.

I haven’t been past the mini golf since I took this photo, so I am not sure if this sign is actually still standing. Regardless, I feel like I have captured a piece of history.

A little bit of info on the actual artwork: it is a 16″ x 24″ metallic photographic print which was mounted to a wood based image block. If you would like to adorn your wall at home with this quirky and fun piece, please come down and visit it at the 18th Annual Art All Night. The going rate on it is $200.00 for the 16″x24″ image block.

While you are down there, check out all the other great pieces down there by Robert Revay and Brandt Dykstra, as well as many others! Hope to see you there!

Michele Joann Photography is featured on Things Remembered!

In December, I had the wonderful opportunity to work with a college classmate of mine, Margie Netzel, who happens to be the Copywriter/Community Manager for ThingsRemembered.com. She introduced me to an amazing couple, Jeff and Shane, who has recently gotten engaged. They wanted photos to mark the occasion, so we traveled to Mt. Washington and the Duquesne Incline for some unique engagement shoot ideas and shots. This engagement was extra unique, as it was the first time for me that it featured beautiful earrings, rather than a standard ring.

(The earrings, by the way, are courtesy of my friend Alicia Blair at Diamond Design Jewelers in Wexford, PA.)

I have been holding off on posting the end results of the shoot until the blog was on the site, but let me say: we had a LOT of fun that day! I will be posting my own shots within the coming days, so be on the lookout!

For the time being: here is the blog post! Enjoy!
